Why Ketamine StartUp Was Created
By Samuel Ko, MD, MBA, FACEP, FAAEM
A long time ago, I had a dream to transform the entire healthcare system. I figured I’d climb the corporate ladder and make the changes once I was at the top.
So I started climbing the ladder. First as a community attending emergency physician, then as an assistant professor of emergency medicine, and then as an assistant medical director of an emergency department.
Soon, I was offered a position to become the medical director of the emergency department. I’d become the head honcho at a small hospital and eventually more doors would open up for me.
I could potentially become a regional medical director and then possibly even a vice president of a division at a large healthcare corporation.
I looked up at those ahead of me and and had a sudden flash of insight:
If I continued climbing this ladder, I would simply become a cog in a big healthcare business devoted to providing quarterly profits to anonymous shareholders.
The ladder I was climbing was up against the wrong building.
So I took a LEAP!
I said NO to the money, the status, the medical director position, and the well-worn path.
It was scary & unnerving at first, but the golden handcuffs were unshackled.
I took a portion of my savings and started my own private practice ketamine infusion clinic in Palm Springs, California.
I was able to make my own rules for how the clinic would function to BEST serve patients. Although I was putting in more hours into my own clinic than ever, the beautiful part was that I owned this baby.
I was living my dream and yet I still wanted to transform healthcare!
And this is where Ketamine StartUp comes in - the purpose of this course is to help doctors go from feeling lost and overwhelmed to empowered and knowledgeable in starting their own ketamine clinic!
When doctors own their own practice, it’s an incredibly empowering experience. It’s very challenging, but it’s FREEDOM.
I am still committed to transforming healthcare by supporting physicians get their power back and transform the healthcare system one doctor at a time.
