What is the most important thing you need to start a ketamine infusion clinic?

At first you may think that the most important thing you need to start a ketamine infusion clinic is a physical clinic location. Or you are thinking what you need is prior ketamine administration experience. Perhaps you may have even thought that the answer is amazing marketing. These things are all critical to know and have, but what takes precedent is COURAGE.

According to Merriam-Webster, courage is defined as: “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.”

Fear leads to a false sense of security by sticking to what you know. But if there’s something that you really want to pursue, but you’re doubtful due to fear, then it’s time to find the courage.

Why is courage the most important thing to have in starting a ketamine clinic?

Starting a ketamine clinic is an opportunity to face your fears, specifically fears that have taken root in your past. Here are some of the fears we had, and perhaps you can relate to them:

  • Fear of failure or loss (time, money, reputation, etc.)

  • Fear of criticism (from family to colleagues to strangers…you name it!)

  • Fear of rejection

All these fears can stop you from starting your clinic, or any of your dreams. Fears breed inaction and create a false sense of safety. While you may know in your heart you want to start your own ketamine clinic, by listening to these fears, you will never start. Never starting means you’ll never fail, be criticized, or rejected. Never starting means never failing. BUT to put it plainly, you are more at risk from never starting than failing. Why? Because the risk of never starting leads to bigger consequences than failing: regrets and “what ifs?”

Fear is part of us being human. One way to overcome fear is to find the courage to take action by focusing on our goals and having a clear vision.

How do I get the courage to start my clinic?

Courage can only exist in the face of fear. We are human. To have fear is a part of being human, but courage is as well. Focus and action are the antidote to fear!

Focus draws our attention away from anything we fear. When you are deep in your fears about starting a clinic, your focus is on your fears. What could you focus on instead to give you the strength and courage to take action?

We suggest focusing on your vision, goals, and most importantly your “why.” Keeping your eye on the prize and focusing on what you want and why you want it will propel you forward. You’ve already used this strategy during your medical training and tough days in the hospital. If you could survive those tough days despite all the challenges, then you definitely have it in you to overcome other fears too.

Getting over your fears isn’t something that can be done overnight. It takes practice and understanding that your fears are simply thoughts and nothing else.

Time to develop a new habit

It’s all practice. Practice to focus on your why versus being motivated by the avoidance of pain.

Today, we challenge you to focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want or what you’re afraid of.

We also invite you to notice any of your fears coming up, and simply notice it. Perhaps say, “Hey, there’s one of my fears. I’m not going to let this affect me.” Let it pass, then take a moment to reflect on what you want and most importantly why you want it.

Remember that feelings of regret are far greater than any failure.
